"You do not see a massive collapse as fossil fuels vanish?"

Not at all. There will be a transition of the work force away from fossil fuels, but there will be lots of work for the next hundred years. Infrastructure will have to be maintained, rebuilt and relocated. Lots of jobs maintaining the new energy, transportation and industrial infrastructures. Lots of work remediating the mess the industry left behind.

Right now governments are paying absurd amounts of money directly to the industry and for the costs of the negative externalities. We'll be benefiting hugely by not throwing good tax payer money after bad and not paying for all of the health impacts as well.

Efficiency doesn't make people poor.
