When people ask, I say that the next time they have to make a major capital purchase, they should make more climate friendly ones.

When their gas furnace or central air is giving up the ghost, they should replace both with heat pumps.

When their car is on its last legs, they should buy an electric car if they really need a car, but maybe consider if an electric bike could meet the needs.

And they have to do that in context of the opportunities society provides to them and their other goals.

We won't get out of the climate crisis because of better decisions by a bunch of individuals, we'll get out of the climate crisis because individuals have climate-friendly options instead of climate unfriendly ones, and those choices work for the families.
