The first fuel cell was built in 1842. Gemini rockets had them starting in 1962. The first commercial fuel cell forklift was manufactured and put into service in 1965 and now, almost 60 years later, there are only about 50,000 of them operating, almost entirely in warehouses where the US DOE provided the money for fueling infrastructure and initial forklift purchases.

The first hydrogen bus trial was in 2000. There have been innumerable failed trials since and California's fleet is running 50% higher on maintenance costs than diesel buses and double the costs of their much more numerous electric buses.

But do say again how hydrogen for transportation is in its infancy and really should be given another chance.

After all, Ballard's $55 million per year average losses, a total of $1.3 billion, since 2000 are just teething pains.

Yeesh.
