It wasn’t true seven years ago and it isn’t true now for utility-scale wind generation. You have to use a really odd view of things to make that assertion, but it’s a perpetual myth. I was never able to trace that particular myth to its original source, but given that a modern 2.6 MW wind turbine generates 9 GWh of electricity in a year, enough to drive a Tesla a third of the way to the Sun (yeah, 30 million miles of the 93 million), it’s nonsense.
Energy pay back is measured in months. Fiscal payback is 2–4 years of the 30 year lifespan.
