And has been completely obsoleted by cheaper, simpler and much more reliable circuitry, with weight-driven clocks and gear driven time pieces maintained only out of a sense of history, tradition and in the case of men's watches, a weird luxury fetish thing, mostly related to the size of the price tag. Seriously, one of the most absurd products I've ever seen is a plug-in watch case for self-winding watches that constantly moves them so that their owners can have a half a dozen absurdly expensive time pieces that are inaccurate but working to choose from in the morning. Rube Goldberg would be sniggering in his grave.
